The quality of ministry in our parish is a reflection of the quality of stewardship in our parish.

Stewardship is being an active disciple of Jesus (not a passive one). Jesus seeks our help to expand His kingdom, i.e., His influence on the face of the earth. Stewardship gives us a structure to our discipleship by looking at our use of Time, Talent, and Treasure. The stewardship of TIME corresponds to our Spirituality; investing time to deepen our relationship with God through Prayer, the Word of God, Mass and Sacraments.

The English word “Talent” actually comes from a parable Jesus told about a man who went on a journey; he gave talents of silver to his servants to use until he returned. A talent was a measurement of weight of around 130 pounds. A talent of silver in those days equaled 20 years’ salary. The Master gave the talents richly to his servants expecting that they would use them to benefit their master not just themselves. When the Master returned, he rewarded those who used their talents well, and he punished the one who did nothing with the talent he was given.

This corresponds to our Christian SERVICE. Jesus said that the greatest in His kingdom is the one who serves the greatest. Serving is not optional; it is required of a disciple of Jesus. In our parish we have too few people doing too much, and we have too many people doing too little. As a result some of our ministries are struggling.
